Forest Stream

On Wednesdays I walk with a group of local women who know many of the public trails we have here in Mendocino.  This was painted recently from a photo I took in February.  Six months later with this same group we took a walk along the same stream.  The vegetation was fuller by the bank, tall horsetail rushes, but the stream was very low, all the rocks could be seen in the bed.  In the winter these streams often have a soft sage green tint.  These forest were all logged at least once, but the "second growth" forest is quite lovely.  Trees are all at least 50 or 60 feet high.  Many redwoods in these parts, but Douglas fir as well.
